On the 12 of August 2025 at 9:30am took place a video-conference held by Studio d’Arte Andromeda (via Malpaga 11, Trento, Italy) to start the work of the jury for the above-mentioned contest. This year’s theme was:
INVISIBLES:
JURY MEMBERS:Marco De Angelis, cartoonist and illustrator, Marilena Nardi, cartoonist, Umberto Rigotti, cartoonist and illustrator, Toti Buratti, cartoonist, Andrea Oberosler, illustrator
Toti Buratti, representing Studio d’Arte Andromeda, opens the jury work for XXXIII International Festival of Humor and Satire “City of Trento” proposing the nomination of a jury’s president and a jury’ s secretary.
Online at the video-conference are present: Marco De Angelis, Marilena Nardi, Umberto Rigotti,Toti Buratti and Andrea Oberosler. Marco De Angelis is voted as President of the jury and Andrea Oberosler as Secretary, unanimously.
The jury takes in consideration the big participation of the authors: this year we received
artworks from 342 authors, for a total of 811 artworks coming from 56 countries. We feel like the level and quality of each work was very high. This year’s theme, ambiguous and interpretable in different ways, has maybe helped everybody’s creativity and has allowed the creation of powerful works both on graphic level and originality. In many of the works the authors reached a poetic level of expression through graphic and pictorial media.
The jury proceeds with the analysis of the comics category and then of the satire and humor category. Each artwork is discussed between the members of the jury.
The selection work takes place through the morning and the first part of the afternoon, without interruptions or problems.
The analysis of the artworks received for comics category takes the jury to the selection of the 24 artworks that will join the exhibition; between them, the jury selected the first prize and 2 honorable mentions. The jury then proceeds with the satire and humor category and selects the 151 artworks that will join the exhibition, 3 prizes, 7 honorable mentions and also assignes the Special Prize Alessandro Alfonsi.
The prize assignment, approved unanimously after discussion, is the following:
SATIRE AND HUMOR
FIRST PRIZE: Jugoslav Vlahovic (Serbia)
Jugoslav Vlahovic with the work that won the first prize used his highly personal and immediately recognizable graphic style to convey the essence of the meaning. The wall modeled on human features (or perhaps it is a face that has become a wall...) metaphorically symbolizes
the invisibility and constraint of those who hide behind walls of knowledge and indifference, prohibition, or discrimination. With this image, Vlahovic conveys a sense of anguish and inevitability, delving deep into interpersonal relationships and society.
SECOND PRIZE:Andrea Foches (Italy)
Andrea Foches’ artwork immediately stands out for its pleasing composition and color scheme, which, aided by a highly effective three-dimensional effect, makes the satirical commentary immediately understandable. Here, wealth and poverty are cynically contrasted, with a couple only caring about buying gifts and not interested in the unsuspecting and cold homeless man on the bench, but only on the sales. Different lives and social conditions in a work that makes you smile, but also think.
THIRD PRIZE: Anna Formilan (Italy)
Anna Formilan’s illustration is an original and elegant artistic creation with disruptive content.
Her image reinterprets the classical canons of sacred representation, blending spirituality and modernity. We gaze thoughtfully at this Madonna who, amid brambles and reddish glows, silently cries out her pain for one of the countless victims of war she holds in her arms: a son wrapped in a shroud, like a sad “Pietà” of our times.
SPECIAL PRIZE ALESSANDRO ALFONSI: Sergey Mila (Israel)
Sergey Mila receives the Alfonsi Prize for the beauty and graphic clarity of his work, whose subtle lines and muted winter tones create a poetic and symbolic synthesis that touches the soul. That puddle with a human silhouette, in which the bare trees lining the road of life are reflected with a flash of light, makes us think about how fleeting and transient human beings are, with a destiny whose path is marked by indifference and oblivion.
HONORABLE MENTIONS: Aristides Hernandez - Cuba, Igor Smirnov - Russia, Cristina Bernazzani - Italy, Mehdi Azizi - Iran, Ömer Cam - Turkey, Pol Leurs - Luxembourg, Vladimir Kazanevsky - Ukraine
COMICS:
FIRST PRIZE:Omar Figueroa Turcios (Colombia)
Omar Figueroa Turcios manages, with a simple sequence of six images, to express the concept of invisibility in relation to the theme of poverty and cynical economics. Through the use of no-frills graphics and an amusing caricature effect, the author, thanks to a final twist, concisely and skillfully conveys a highly effective message, in which what cannot be seen is in fact the harsh reality.
HONORABLE MENTIONS: Santiago Cornejo - Argentina, Vladimir Stankovski - Serbia
The jury works are closed at 06.00pm on the 13 of August 2025.
The President Marco De Angelis, The Secretary Andrea Oberosler
