The theme was described in more detail by art critic and exhibition selector Branka Hlevnjak: COMMUNICATION AND (INTERPERSONAL) RELATIONSHIPS Has communication become a one-way manipulation? Has reality been replaced by its technological surrogate? Are we sinking into the abyss of lethargy due to excess information? Are we letting our brains graze because we finally have our intellectual assistant Chat GPT? OR We sharpen critical thought. We strengthen empathy. We are becoming our own, international and planetary. Have we evolved into better people and smarter humanity through enhanced communication networks? OR We stand still without changing our nature since the beginning of civilization? Do we hear each other better or just faster and more superficial? Where has it disappeared and is inter-neighborly solidarity really forbidden? How does the media incite fear and spread hatred? The most severe form of destruction of humanity is forbidden communication, because people, despite their imperfection, are social beings. Mass media communication has been reduced to paid advertisements. Public speech was vulgalized. The world is screaming and cursing. Interpersonal intercourse is in diapers. The technology puts a pacifier in their mouth and a rattle under their hands. Have we taken a step forward or a step back? What can I say to that without saying a word? Applications for the competition are open from October 6 to November 7, 2025, and ANYONE interested can apply – regardless of experience, age, gender, religion, nationality or any other (more or less important) characteristic of the author. Authors can submit 1-3 "silent" caricatures (without text!), following the proposals of the competition and responding in their own unique and creative way to the given topic. Upon completion of the application, an expert jury will select the best among the submitted works, and then the public will be able to vote and choose the works that will be awarded. Regardless of the results of the voting, all participants will receive a certificate of participation, and their selected works will be published in the 3. ZeGeBOOM! A catalogue of caricatures. The winners of the competition will additionally earn valuable prizes! Online voting will be available worldwide and open from November 21 to December 3, 2024. The best works will be exhibited from December 10 to December 31, 2024 in the Small Gallery of the Trešnjevka Cultural Center, and all other submitted works will be available online – to allow everyone to enjoy the art of caricature!
